Canine Cognitive Dysfunction (CCD) is often assumed to be the issue when middle-aged to older dogs experience unexplained insomnia, pacing, panting, whining, hyperreactivity, fussing, detachment, or anxiety. Many different costly drugs are often tried but tend to bring only brief relief. The good news is that not all dogs with these symptoms actually have CCD.
Insomnia, agitation, lack of focus, anxiety, spinning, and restlessness can also result from an excessive stress response by the adrenal glands—similar to PTSD in humans. The source of stress may be unknown, but it’s likely if the dog seems strong when agitated, has a rapid heart rate, or shows high blood pressure. Vertigo from idiopathic vestibular disease is also common, as stress disorders can cause excessive cerebral blood flow, leading to cranial nerve inflammation.
When used consistently over several days to weeks, Halscion supports balanced adrenal gland function and normal brain circulation. Its components have even helped bring adrenal gland cancer (pheochromocytoma) into remission. How to Use / Dosage
Halscion is an organically grown concentrated herbal extract in powdered form.
Fold the herbs into your pet’s meal, or shake them with broth or water and pour over top if feeding canned or kibble.
Suggested starting dose (twice daily):
▪ Up to 15 lb: 1/8 tsp
▪ 15–40 lb: 1/4 tsp
▪ 40–70 lb: 1/2 tsp
▪ 70–110 lb: 3/4 tsp
▪ Over 110 lb: 1 tsp
If benefits are not seen, the dose can be safely doubled.
One bottle lasts over a month for dogs 50 lb and under, or about two weeks for 100 lb dogs.
For cats: use approximately 1/8 tsp twice daily in a capsule or mixed with food. Results may vary, and some cats respond better simply to a real food diet.
